A Surprising Engagement Session in the Rain

Josh + Laura

I am pretty excited for this couple right here! Laura is a dear friend of mine and I have watched her relationship with Josh begin and grow and develop, so now, being able to celebrate with them in their engagement is extremely exciting! I remember the day Laura announced that she was engaged. We were at church talking with a few ladies when Laura reached out and touched me with her left hand…when I saw that dazzling diamond sparkling on her ring finger I literally jumped and screamed! I was shocked and excited and so overwhelmed with happiness for this sweet, sweet couple!! A few weeks later when Laura asked me to take their photos, I was thrilled!

Planning their session was a little tricky as my summer schedule is pretty full and Josh is currently living in North Dakota. His next visit was going to be in mid June to run Grandma’s Marathon with Laura! The only date that worked out for the three of us for a session was the Monday after the marathon! These two were such great sports…after running a vigorous 26.2 miles in the hot sun, they rested for a day and made it to their session with a little extra sun on their face and a few sore muscles.

And of course, on the only day that worked for a session, the weather called for thunderstorms! Rescheduling would have been a tough option so we decided to wing it and hoped and prayed for the best! When the session began, the sun was shining just a bit through the clouds and according to the radar, there was no rain headed our way! I was so relieved! We explored a new location, talked about the marathon and their plans for the wedding, and laughed a lot. Then, out of nowhere, the sky grew dark and it began to pour! We ran to the car and made a game plan. Laura and Josh are so flexible and easy going, these two traits alone will be a blessing in their marriage! We decided to go on with a few more photos, grabbed some umbrellas and enjoyed the rain. I was so glad we didn’t call it quits because as you’ll see, the most beautiful double rainbow showed up in the sky as soon as the dark clouds rolled away! We finished out the session with damp hair and the bright sun back in the sky!

It was a great session for a number of reasons. For starters, these two are the absolute cutest together and were so fun to photograph! But the thing I enjoyed the most was seeing them together and hearing them share from their heart. These two love Jesus and are faithfully trusting Him in every aspect of their relationship. It was so encouraging to hear them talk about their future in total faith and surrender-knowing that God has the best possible plan for them.

Congratulations Laura and Josh! I couldn’t be more excited for you two and I am so happy that God brought you together!!
