A Perch Lake Winter Engagement Session

Donnie + Hattie

Last weekend I headed up to Perch Lake just north of Hibbing to meet Hattie and Donnie! I always feel a little anxious and mostly excited to meet my new wedding couples for the first time and today was no different. The scenery on the drive up to the lake was breathtaking! There is something about winter in Minnesota that is truly beautiful! I drove through the snow-covered roads that twisted and wound around the lake and eventually pulled up to a private drive lined with evergreens. As I walked up to the house, Hattie opened the door with a big smile and welcomed me in! This was her parents home that they had renovated and oh my was it adorable! I could have curled up on the couch and stayed all day! We chatted for a bit, I got to meet her parents, and then I had to force myself to stop gawking at their gorgeous home and get ready for photos!

We headed outside to the mid 20 degree weather and started the session! For those of you who aren’t from around here, we were literally in a polar vortex (I had no idea this was actually a real thing until last week) the days leading up to the session. With windchill, the temperature got to -70 just a few nights prior! So even though it was still below freezing, the 20 degree weather felt quite balmy! We explored around Hattie’s families property and out on the lake. It was such a blast! Sometimes I can’t believe that I even get to do this as my job! I mean I spent my afternoon with two of the sweetest (and beautiful) people I’ve met, running around and playing in the snow! Does it get much better than that?

Hattie and Donnie just celebrated 8 years together last weekend! Brought together by Donnie’s best friend and Hattie’s sister. It was obvious that they are the closest of friends and they compliment each other so well! I loved seeing Donnie care for Hattie-you could tell he truly treasures and adores her. And there is just something about them that makes you feel instantly comfortable when you are around them, like you’ve been friends for years. I couldn’t be more excited for these two as they prepare for their marriage together! I feel so honored to be by their side capturing this special time in their life!
