Whitefish Lodge & Suites Winter Wonderland Wedding

Weddings are all alike in some ways-there are always rings, always a ceremony, always a dress…but weddings are also so different from each other. That is one of my favorite things about photographing them. Every wedding is unique and special in it’s own way and you can really learn about the couple and who they are from what their wedding day looks like!

If I were to tell you a few things that I learned about Lauryn and Donavon from their wedding day, I would tell you that they absolutely love Jesus and their faith is what they have built their relationship on! I always work on a timeline with my couples, making sure we have enough time for each section of photos and that we are on the same page with their priorities for the day. Lauryn and Donavon’s final timeline included “Prayer” at least five times during the day. For their ceremony, the one thing they absolutely wanted to make sure of, was that the officiant shared the gospel, the saving power of Jesus’ death and resurrection with all those who were there. The music during the ceremony was not only during a unity celebration, but also for worship. With hands held out, the bride sang praises to her King on her wedding day! What a testament of their love for God and His importance in their marriage!

Another thing I learned during this wedding is that Donavon is crazy about Lauryn! From the tears he shed during their first look, to his heartfelt and meaningful vows, to the way he learned to dance just because Lauryn loves dancing, all showed how much he truly cares for, loves, and adores her. It warmed my heart to see what a great foundation these two already have-for when you can learn to love and serve your spouse above yourself, you have already figured out a big key to having a successful and happy marriage!

I also learned how Lauryn and Donavon are true outdoorsmen-they love all things plaid, woodsy, and adventurous! It was -13 degrees on the start of their wedding day and we had over a foot of snow, but that didn’t even phase them. They gladly took outdoor photos for over an hour with just a few short breaks here and there to keep from frostbite!! The bridesmaids had plaid scarves-the groomsmen plaid socks. Lauryn had evergreen sprigs and berries in her hair and Donavon sported a shotgun shell boutonniere that was used while he shot guns with his friends at his bachelor party. They got married in front of a stone fireplace beneath a moose in a log framed lodge. The guests were given pine tree saplings as favors and the centerpieces were made of birch logs. To top it off they enjoyed a honeymoon at Larsmont Cottages on the North Shore and hiked through the snow on frozen trails to the waterfall that they got engaged at one year prior!

Enjoy a few of my favorites here on the blog! I hoped it captured the essence of who they are and what their wedding was like! Lauryn and Donavon, thanks for inviting Denny and I into your day, for making us feel like family, and for letting us share in your joy!!

First looks are just the best!!!
