My Photography Journey

A Needed Change

I really didn’t know what I was getting into when I started my photography business. I honestly had no real ambitions of it going very far or of even being able to create consistent good photos. I still struggle in having confidence in my work and a lot of times feel like I’m just faking it! But none the less I keep learning and keep booking sessions and little by little I find myself growing and becoming happier with who I am as a photographer. On the way to every session I pray and ask God to calm my nerves and ask Him that if it is His will for me to continue doing photography as a business that He would bless the session, that it would go extremely well and that I would be able to get some amazing shots. He has done that for me! He has blessed me more than I could have imagined in this endeavor and I am so thankful to be able to be doing photography still!

As I have pushed myself to try all areas of photography from newborns to weddings, I have felt a draw toward wedding photography. This was a little strange for me because I used to be an elementary teacher-I love kids! And there is something that I love about family and newborn photography, but in a busy life where the struggle of balancing marriage, parenting, church involvement, house keeping, friendships, and jobs is all too real, I’ve decided I need to make a change in my business. In order to slow down a bit and keep my focus on the things that are most important, I will no longer be doing family and newborn sessions. I will solely be a senior and wedding photographer. That is hard for me even to type out and I am hoping I don’t regret this decision! I also hope I don’t lose the friendship that I have gained in so many of you through photographing your families!! I will miss seeing your little ones grow and getting the chance to catch up with you! Thank you to all of you who have been so very very supportive of me! It seriously means the world! Without you I would not be able to do this! Thank you for every like and comment on Facebook. Thank you for the referrals and the kind words! Thank you for the encouragement and most of all thank you for letting me be your photographer! It all means more than you will know! Please don’t be strangers!! If you need referrals for a session, ask!! There are so many talented photographers in our area and I would love to point you to them. And if you know someone looking for a wedding or senior photographer, send them my way! I would be forever grateful!

And now, because I cannot write a blog post without including some photographs….here are a few photos of my family…a few photos of the people that keep me doing what I do and caused me to take a good hard look at what needed to change in my business in order to be a great wife and Mommy!

My best friend Suzanne of Simple Bloom Photo Co took these and I am so incredibly grateful and blessed by her talent!!
