A Grand Rapids, MN Wedding
All weddings are special to me, but this one was truly an honor to be a part of. Alexa is a sweet friend and her now husband David leads worship at our church. David is so very gifted at leading us all into a heart of worship and it is so evident how much he loves the Lord. So being able to be a part of their wedding was a gift. It was a gift to be able to see a man of God whole heartily commit himself to his bride in the covenant of marriage!
David and Alexa had a beautiful day. Countless hours had been spent preparing decor and arranging the details of their big day. Alexa was radiant in her wedding gown and she held several possessions of great importance as part of her wedding ensemble-a pearl bracelet that her father had gifted her mother on their wedding day, her grandmother’s purse, and more. She was surrounded by her family and closest of friends as she prepared for the day ahead.
The sky was covered with clouds as we began taking photos outside and then came the rain drops. It wasn’t long until the drops turned into a complete down pour. The weather forecast had been calling for thunderstorms all week so we were not too surprised as the storms rolled in, but it was what came next that caught us all off guard and put David and Alexa’s patience to the test. As the final preparations were madeĀ for the ceremony, the power suddenly went out. Our entire town of Grand Rapids was in a power outage. You can imagine my concern-I’m supposed to capture gorgeous images and document this special moment for the bride and groom in a room that was so dark that my camera could hardly focus! I began fumbling with my flash to get it just right which was quite the difficult task. Although I was anxious and nervous for how the ceremony would unfold, the bride and groom seemed unfazed. They knew exactly the purpose of the ceremony and were not going to let a power outage ruin the joy they had! Candles were dug out of storage closets and scattered among the church as guests found their seats and the wedding began. It was one of the most intimate and romantic weddings I have been to. There were no lights, no recorded music, no microphones….just a bride and her groom and their friends and family.
After the ceremony the storms cleared and we were able to get outside for a few more portraits. David and Alexa were thrilled to be husband and wife!
The day ended at their reception. Good food, great people, and a whole lot of dancing filled the evening. And these two left as husband and wife! It could not have been a more perfect day! Congratulations David and Alexa!
